How to know if an item is worth flipping
Use this fast, repeatable Go/No-Go framework to protect your cash and buy smarter.
The 60-second Go/No-Go
- Category: Is it a high-ROI category? (tested electronics, gaming, branded footwear, tools, collectibles)
- Condition: Can you test it? Any cracks, corrosion, missing chargers?
- Demand: Are buyers actively searching for it?
- Shipping: Is it small enough to ship without dim-weight surprises?
- Profit: After fees + shipping, is there enough margin for the effort?
The simple profit math
Net profit = sale price − (platform fees + shipping + packaging + your cost).
When you’re unsure, use ranges: a fast-sale low end and a patient-sale high end.
When to pass
- No way to test and no margin cushion
- Bulky items with unknown shipping cost
- No-name electronics
- Missing critical parts (unless extremely cheap)
